LIT BANG! is a literary-focused pop-up shop springing up for a full month at Milk Glass Gallery (Ossington and Dundas) beginning on Nov. 26 — a retail environment open to the public, selling a range of magazines, books, prints, artwork, greeting cards & more.
LIT BANG! is also a new literary festival offering up a full program of events within the space throughout the month — 2 magazine launch parties; an art exhibition; 3 Tuesday Talks (one about ‘race & poetry’, one about ‘short form comics’, one about ‘fan fiction’); a typewriter poem book launch; a slam poetry showcase; a small press fair; and various workshops … and the best part, it’s all FREE to attend.

LIT BANG! Event 1 — Feathertale Review Issue 16 Launch Party
… on Thu Nov 26, Feathertale presents its annual launch party — introducing The Feathertale Review #16, a whale of a publication featuring, among other things: a bed bug enjoying a tiny martini; a heated, napkin-based argument during an episode of Family Feud; Jennifer Aniston forgetting her wallet and climbing down from a tree. Come grab your copy and join in for a great night of banter, booze and monkeys, plus some internet-themed microfiction performed by Feathertale’s best and brightest! Magazines and subscriptions will be on sale at the venue. 7 PM.
LIT BANG! Event 2 – Poetry Is Dead Issue 12 Launch Party
… on Fri Nov 27, join Poetry Is Dead to launch the ‘Working Class’ issue guest edited by Jenny Sampirisi and Mat Laporte. Hosted by Jenny Sampirisi, with guest readings from the issue including Andrew McEwan, Jimmy McInnes, Sarah Pinder and Margaret Christakos. Editor-in-Chief, Daniel Zomparelli will be there giving out free cool PID buttons. Join for readings, drinks and to check out the pop-up shop! LIT BANG! Event 3 — Tuesday Talk #1: Race & Poetry
… on Tue Dec 01 @ 7 PM, Poetry Is Dead presents the first of three LIT BANG! Tuesday Talks — Sonnet L’Abbé, Sachiko Murikami and Jacqueline Valencia will be discussing their experiences and thoughts on race and poetry, in support of the upcoming poetry conference Toronto Poetry Talks.
LIT BANG! Event 4 — Art Exhibition
… on Thu Dec 03 @ 7 PM, join us for the opening reception of the LIT BANG! Art Exhibition, featuring original art work from CAROUSEL contributors Matt Davey, Fiona Smyth and Michael Toke, and limited edition art prints from Feathertale artists including Dushan Milic, Brian Roppel and Graham Roumieu. LITBANG! Events 5 + 6 — CAROUSEL presents Gustave Morin’s Clean Sails
… on Fri Dec 04, help us celebrate the Toronto launch (& world premiere!) of gustave morin’s Clean Sails, a 160 page volume of visually complex, next-generation typewriter poems (just released by New Star Books, Vancouver) – doors for the main event 7 PM, reading at 8 PM! LIT BANG! Event 7 — Tuesday Talk #2: Short Form Comics
… on Tue Dec 08 @ 7 PM, CAROUSEL and 4panel present the second of three LIT BANG! Tuesday Talks — a panel discussion on short form comics, with a focus on the the formal & poetic possibilities of the four panel / 4PANEL comic strip form. LIT BANG! Event 8 — Toronto Poetry Slam team showcase
… on Thu Dec 10 Feathertale partners with the Toronto Poetry Slam team for a spoken word showcase. Performers Trevor Abes, Kay Kassirer and Justin G offer up lyrical rhymes. Doors open at 7:30 PM.
LIT BANG! Events 9 & 10 — ALL THE WORDS Small Press Fair
… on Sat Dec 12 a gathering of your favourite small press magazines — including Archenemy Magazine, Broken Pencil, Ink Brick, Little Brother Magazine and Taddle Creek — is popping up for one day only. Swing by the store to meet the editors and pick up copies of the newest issues. Runs 11 AM – 5 PM.
… then, on Sun Dec 13 swing by the store for The Chapbook Exchange, presented by Poetry Is Dead Magazine and hosted by Eric Schmaltz — where enthusiasts can pick up something new to read from BookThug, words(on)pages, Puddles of Sky Press, Desert Pets Press and more! Runs 2-5 PM.

LIT BANG! Event 12 — Story Mountain writing workshop for kids
… on Sat Dec 19 from 10 – 11 AM, children ages 7 to 12 are invited to CREATE THEIR OWN SUPERHERO in an hour-long workshop with Story Mountain. Kids will leave the session with the beginning of a great adventure and the opportunity to submit their finished story to Feathertale Magazine’s very first all-children’s issue in 2016.
